changing things

For the usual reasons and maybe others, I am thinking of changing how I blog yet again. I really enjoy the writing now but I guess I tire of the whole GitHub and netlify things. It just makes steps I have to remember from the Mac to my iPhone to write. One of the things I really enjoyed before was using Pika and the wonderful micropub api support from iA Writer. This made publishing the blog right from iA so easy. I don’t like web editors ever. Especially on mobile. I did think of bearblog yet again but it has the same issues with the web editor. At some point, I will probably change things and may move the 30 or so blog posts that are just markdown files to whatever else. Or I may just stay with how it is and just stop caring about the few steps on mobile and my MacBook. The writing itself always just seems to flow for me. I don’t need some workflow or some drafts to write on and save. Everything is a draft for me even after its published. I just start writing and stop at some point. Then maybe the next day over coffee or during a walk and finding a bench or curb to sit on, I can finish or just add more.

Writing like I do with markdown files and a nice native editor like iA Writer makes this easy. I can start a thing, remember it later at some coffee shop, decide I want more on it. Then I just do it.

I can do this with any service really but I really do not want a mobile web editor to deal with since the tiny little window on the iPhone is irritating. I need to have micropub support or just use a static site.

so next steps?

Well there are none. I just will decide one day I guess I’m done and I want something else. I delete the connection with netlify and GitHub. I take a backup of the GitHub repo to my Mac. I can delete the app on iOS and the cloned repo also goes away. Its all markdown files. There’s no server. No files I need to get besides the markdown thing and my images. They all live in a few folders on both.

One thing which has interested me is smol.pub. This whole thing appeals for its nature and character. Maybe there is something else too. I dunno. I’ll just wait and see where the coffee takes me tomorrow.

coffee and thoughts

Beautiful Sunday morning so I take advantage and do this a bit longer morning walk to coffee. Wonderful hints of blue skies after rain last night. This time of year is one of the nicest. Cooler days. Often rainy nights. It’s a good time to puzzle on what I should do with the blog.

The easiest thing really is to just keep it as is. I enjoy how it works mostly. I feel I’m getting the daily writing in I like to do. Change is a forever itch. Like I could write over there. Do that. I don’t want more than one blog. I don’t see that need. Some people change their blog service but I never really see unique content. I just see the messages changing things. If there’s no content why bother. Just do some writing. Tell me your story. Your why or not.

Today since it’s Sunday I will end up walking through this neighborhood. Past many nice little coffee shops and over to a favored neighborhood. From there to the big market. Where everything is sold and the Cambodian mangos are addictive.

I guess I decided to not decide. That works.
